The local rowing club, Aviron Knowlton Rowing (AKR) is launching its first full year of operations for club/community rowing this summer.
Rowing is a bit like riding a horse: it is hard to do well when you’re just starting, so the Aviron Knowlton Rowing club is offering a “Learn to Row” program for beginners every weekend from mid-June to mid-October.
“This is a two-day weekend camp from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. When you have finished on Sunday, you will know if rowing is for you, and you can become a full member,” says Gabby Smith, who is running the program. Experienced members can take boats out during the week. Members who are still learning can row with coaches privately, or join group programs.
“On Thursday nights, we will row in groups with a coach. On Fridays, we will have racing against the clock,” says Ms. Smith. Club rowing is open for all ages from 14 and up. It will take place at the Marina.
