The Brome County Historical Society (BCHS) continues to strengthen its finances while making substantial investments in its infrastructure and exhibits. This was the core message at the 120th Annual General Meeting on Saturday, March 4th, 2017.
In 2016, there was an operating surplus of $12,455. The capital campaign raised $157,462 of which $144,000 was used to complete the renovation of the Court House. The capital campaign will continue in 2017, and beyond, to support the restoration of all the buildings.
In 2016, there were many exhibits and special focus on WWI. The exhibit on Colonel Baker MP was recognized nationally and the team was invited to Parliament in Ottawa to share this with current MP’s. Being both physical and online, the Baker exhibit demonstrated the Museum’s plans to make its collections available locally and globally. In support of this objective, BCHS continues its work to digitize its collections and to expand its efforts to showcase items and events using social media.
A key operational change in 2016 has been to open the Museum for the full 12 months of the year. The Museum is also active in expanding its partnerships with local institutions such as CIDI, Townshippers, Optimist Club and the Literary Festival.
Membership holds solid at about 600 and in 2016 BCHS had 45 volunteers.
A new Board of Directors was elected, and consists of: Donald Gray-Donald, President; Peter G. White, Vice President; Chris Ward, Treasurer; J. Armand Gaudet, Secretary. Carl Ensio, Chris Marks, Peter McAuslan, Richard Santo, Danielle Viau, Jack Walker.
