Thanks Tom McGovern

Tommy McGovern served as a town councillor for almost nineteen years. He was defeated in the recent election and is leaving politics.

He brought a special something to the council and he will be missed. Thomas was his official political name, but everyone calls him Tommy. He was born in the Eastern Townships and has lived in the Town of Brome Lake for almost 50 years, with a brief spell in West Bolton, though only a kilometre or so over the line. He raised both his children here and plans to retire here, though people who know him think he will never stop working.

Tommy McGovern was a hands-on councillor. He answered phone calls, was always seen around the town and helped organize things such as Canada Day and the winter fireworks. If he saw that something needed to be done, he would put someone on it straight away or do it himself.

He was a volunteer firefighter for 19 years and on the commit- tee that founded TBL First Responders. A modest man, Tommy McGovern has made a difference in the town where he has lived and worked all his adult life. We thank him and wish him well.
