Knowlton Medical Clinic – overview

Alison Marks

We are extremely fortunate to have a medical clinic at 280 Victoria Street, Knowlton, offering both scheduled medical visits and a daily emergency clinic to all registered clients.

Hours of service are Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an hour off for lunch between 12 noon and 1 p.m. Additionally, the Knowlton Clinic is open until 8 p.m. on Thursday, and unusually, on Sunday morning from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. On Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 12 noon, you can access the Clinique Medicale Cowansville, 370 Rivière Street, Cowansville. Call in advance to make an appointment at 450-306-1036.

To be able to use the services of the Knowlton Medical Clinic, either for a scheduled visit or an emergency visit, you need to actually be registered with one of the clinic’s family doctors. Unfortunately, the clinic is full and is not accepting new patients at this time.

If a patient does not have a doctor, he/she can register on the ‘Guichet d’accés’ for orphan patients government website and they will be placed on a waiting list according to their vulnerabilities and address.

To schedule a regular appointment with your family physician, you must call after 9 a.m.

Since 2014, to access the emergency clinic (formerly the walk-in clinic), registered patients are asked to call 450-243-5043 * 2 starting at 8:15 a.m., the objective being that emergency patients will be seen the same morning. This emergency system was put in place to ensure better management of patient’s needs, while reducing unnecessary wait times and disappointments.

The phone call to the receptionist at the emergency clinic serves to let the clinic do an all-important triage:

• you should absolutely come to the clinic, or

• you should go to the hospital emergency room, or

• you should call Info-Santé at 811.

All of these options are considered when you call the emergency clinic. The number of emergency patients seen can vary on any given day due to a variety of factors:

• the designated doctor’s availability,

• the number of appointments that the other doctors have that day,

• the number of scheduled appointments that have been booked for that day.

Some patients may be asked to call back the next day. Patients who present themselves at the clinic without calling first will only be seen depending on availability of medical staff and the urgency of their medical situation.
