The Knowlton Golf Club hosted its first junior tournament to hon- our Édouard Grondin, a young golfer who was killed in a car accident last year on his way to his summer job at the club.
“The club suffered a tragedy last year when Edouard was killed. He was a wonderful young man and a promising golfer on the Quebec junior tour,” said Scott Munro, the president of the Knowlton Golf Club. “Our pro Dan Bogan and Golf Quebec put together this tournament which will be played forever at the Knowlton Golf Club.”
The Édouard Grondin Memorial Quebec Junior Matchplay Championship attracted young players, all under 18, from across the province. There were 48 young men and 24 young women playing over three days.
The women’s winner was Anne-Sophie Bélanger of Royal Quebec (Quebec City), and the men’s champion was Laurent Desmarchais of Vallée Richelieu, whose uncle, Paul Desmarchais, is a member of the Knowlton Club.
