More heavy horses at Brome Fair

Weather favoured the Brome Fair this year, with only brief periods of intense rain, and attendance was 40,000, up 5,000 from last year.

The heavy horses were a crowd pleaser, as the giant Belgian, Clydesdale, Percheron and Friesian draft horses pulled wagons into the main ring. There were six- horse teams, with their twenty-four plate-sized hooves shaking the ground as they passed, along with four-horse and two-horse teams.

The Brome Fair attracted more heavy horses than ever, as the event was a sanctioned provincial show, and winners were awarded not just trophies and money, but also points needed to compete in other such events as the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto.
