And the music played on

Meredith Mackeen

Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the L’Harmonie Knowlton Harmony Band at a concert Sunday, October 24, at the Centre Lac-Brome at 2:30 p.m. From the beginning, this community band has participated in most of the popular local events such as Brome Fair,Canada Day, Fête Nationale, Lions Remembrance Day Brunch, November 11, and Santa Claus Parade, as well has giving concerts in schools and senior residences. They are looking forward to resuming the tradition.

Some of the current members started playing an instrument as students at what was Knowlton Composite High School and later became Knowlton Academy. Looking to the future, the youngest players are children who have just begun to play with the band and are being instructed by Susan Reininger. In spite of the pandemic, the musicians continued to practice either in small groups or using Zoom. Recently they have been able to all get together at the Oddfellows Hall.

The concert will include favourite selections such as marches, themes from movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter as well as Sound of Music, Gershwin and a little Mozart.

Most of the concert will be conducted by Susan Reininger who also directs the Potpourri Choir. Former conductors have been invited to hold the baton for their choice of music.
