George Barnes, aged 80, passed away on January 12, 2022 at the BMP hospital.
Born in 1941 on the Tibbits Hill family farm, George was wellknown in TBL as a construction contractor and longtime volunteer fireman with the Town of Brome Lake. For his many friends and acquaintances, he always had a ready smile and rapid-fire Townships’ quips to spread around his particular brand of joy.
George lived in Knowlton, and was father to six children: Kevin, Tony and Jody Barnes, Patrick Proulx, and Ryan and Megan Barnes. George dealt with Parkinson’s but maintained his good attitude until the end. Besides his immediate families, he leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Virginia, Catherine, Jonathan, Ezrah, Kirsty, and Spencer: his brother Brian and sisters Joan Ellis, Suzanne Lepage, and Janice Barnes, as well as many nieces and nephews.
George was a quiet man. His family finds comfort knowing that he was happiest when around them. His eyes lit up at the sight of his children and grandchildren playing, or when they made him his favorite dessert… blackberry pie.
Due to COVID, the family will have a private service, but will celebrate George’s life with family and friends in the future.
