With Love Johnny – A review

Tony Rotherham

“With love, Johnny” – Knowlton Players latest production is a musical memoir of WW II.

Written by Roger de la Mare and directed by Steve Trew, it is a trip down memory lane. The memories are prompted by anecdotes of events and personal experiences recounted by the cast and underlined by songs from that era.

The cast of about 25 offer a mix of music, dance, solos and chorus. It is hard to tell whether the audience or the cast are having the most fun. All songs are classics from the 1940s. The memories provoked by the play depend on the personal experiences of the audience; air raids, transatlantic convoys, a flight across the Irish Sea in a Fairy Swordfish or the loss of loved ones. It might even provoke a tear or two.

Performances at: 7-9 PM on Nov. 4,5,10,11,12, and matinees at 2PM on Nov 6 & 13.

Tickets are $20, available at the Theatre.
