Brome Bright Lights promotes love of writing

Susan Jacques

Spring is in the air and it is time to start planning for the Brome Bright Lights short story contest.

The goal of the 2023 sponsor, Brome Lake Books, is to foster a love of stories, writing and creativity. Last year, over 100 submissions were received and it is hoped to achieve, and maybe surpass, that number this year.

The contest is open to elementary level children (grades 1–6) in the Brome Missisquoi area. Stories must be under 800 words, written in English and be works of the student’s imagination. They will be judged on originality, good story telling, vocabulary and grammar.

Entry forms may be obtained by emailing at bromelakebooks@gmail.com or picking them up at the bookshop. Entries should be dropped off at Brome Lake Books no later than Saturday, April 15. Winners will be announced at the end of May.

There is a $50 first prize and $25 second prize for each grade level and an additional $200 to the grand prize winner. It is hoped that many positive and inspiring stories will be received.
