On July 8, 2023, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. the Fulford Community Club will host the Fulford Street Dance. The idea for the dance began back in 1960, when the Fulford Recreation Club was formed in order to organize recreational events for Fulford residents.
The street dance was one of the first fundraisers, and over the years the event successfully raised money for essential things such as the skating rink and shack, and the village hall.
The dance took place annually and for several years it was held on the main street, Davis Road, with the band playing from atop a wagon and cornmeal thrown down to make dancing easier. With much less traffic back then, children were free to run around the street, hot dogs and soft drinks were enjoyed from the canteen, and raffle and door prizes were 25 cents a ticket. The event had quite a community feel back in the 1960s and the feeling will be much the same 60 years on.
The dance will now take place on the grounds of the Fulford Community Hall. The Townships local band “Leadville Union” will play throughout the evening with a large tent in place in case of rain. Snacks and refreshments will be available. All donations will be going to the benefit of the community.
