The Men’s Shed plans to be more than a social club where men get together. It is beginning to see itself as a resource for the community. In practice, that means being able to be that handyman that many households need to fix something or to be the muscle needed to move heavy things.
Testing this idea, aided by the experts at Demenagement Deluxe, members recently helped single father, Robert Champigny, move his heavy furniture and appliances into a second floor walk-up apartment.
This fall, it is hoped that the Men’s Shed will be able to offer a specific range of help for those household jobs that are too small for the professional. To that end, they are creating a database of skills among their members. Tools are an issue. Expect a tool drive soon. There may be unused tools hidden away in your basement or shed, that could be used to help others.
