The Mayor thanked all members of Council and the staff who worked to manage a successful municipal election. Fifty per cent of eligible electors turned out to vote. Council now includes Mayor Denis Vaillancourt and councillors Nancy Lanteigne, Gilles Asselin, Eddy Whitcher, Loren Allen, Margarita LaFontaine and newly elected Daniel Desrochers.
Notices and Updates
The RCAF has notified West Bolton that residents may be disturbed by low-flying helicopters during a training exercise in November.
Eight building permits were issued in October including two demolitions and one new house.
Gaetan Champagne has been hired to work on road maintenance for a six-month period.
Road Maintenance
Road Maintenance: Brush cutting on roadsides to improve visibility and ditch maintenance will continue on Brill, Stukely and Argyll. Snow clearing contracts have been signed for Town Hall, Mt. Foster parking area and the dry hydrant on Summit Rd.
Municipal Bilingual Status
According to the latest national census only 49 per cent of the population of West Bolton has English as their primary language. Council approved a motion to maintain the bilingual status of the municipality.
Environmental Initiatives
Detection and control of invasive species of plants will continue. An internship agreement with the University of Sherbrooke was approved to develop a natural habitat conservation plan for West Bolton.
