Bagging a big one

By Anne Stairs

Fifteen year-old Bentley Choinière brought the only 10-point buck head to the Brome Bolton Fish and Game Club annual head judging competition at the 2025 season’s end. Bentley got to show off his head in the presence of roughly 75 hunters and friends of hunters. It was a feel-good moment on a lot of levels.

Hunting culture alive in the next generation

First, Bentley’s pride and enthusiasm for hunting was a tangible evidence of hunting skills and hunting culture alive and well in the younger generation.

It’s also a story of like-minded youth, as hunter Josh Mahannah was also out supporting the event. He had donated a skull bleaching in the silent auction.

Unbeknownst to Bentley, Josh’s prize was coming his way thanks to a third hunter with a big heart who put down the winning bid in the silent auction so that Bentley’s buck could be memorialized in a big way.

How to join the hunting community

If you are interested in joining the hunting community, and getting your firearm’s license, follow the Brome Bolton Facebook page. While government safety courses in French are available across the province, the club can offer the course in English.
