At the end of October, Corridor Appalachian Corridor (ACA), our regional nature conservation organization, and the mayors of West Bolton and St-Étienne-de-Bolton launched a fundraising campaign to complete the funding for purchase of 217 hectares of forest land covering the summit of Mount Foster. The 217 ha includes the summit of the mountain and the lookout tower. Public access to the summit in perpetuity is guaranteed. This is the last stage of the agreement to approve a small residential development on Mount Foster and end a long and divisive land use controversy.

The target is to raise $350,000 before December 31. Three hundred and fifty thousand dollars sounds like a lot of money. This will complete the total of $2.5 million required to finalize the purchase of 217 ha to become a protected area. The rest of the money has been contributed by the federal and provincial governments and several private foundations.
