The athletes, their families and Coach Akram in Alma

Aviron Knowlton (AKR) Juniors won three golds and one silver at the Rowing Coupe Quebec in Alma on September 3.
Coached by Maryann Coté-Mashala, Michaela Meacher won gold in the under thirteen category. Sophie Boucher won silver. Both are graduates from AKR’s school rowing program. Coached by Akram Othmani, Thea Blundell won gold in the under 15’s. Thea, who rows for AKR, is a part time member of Aviron Quebec’s “National Program” (CNDP). Also coached by Akram, Maryann Coté-Mashala won gold in the under 20’s. Maryann is a full time member of the CNDP. Akram works for the CNDP and also supervises youth rowing for AKR.
This was AKR’s first step into the competitive world. Other clubs arrived all kitted out in smart spandex uniforms and with branded trucks and trailers. All AKR had was the heart and skill of our rowers and the dedication of our coaches. Heart and skill won.
School rowing will extend into Massey Vanier next year.
