Thrift shops, also known as ‘friperies’ in Quebec, specialize in selling second-hand clothing and other items at affordable prices. They are popular for their sustainable shopping options and unique finds. We are fortunate to have three in Knowlton, each with unique features.

Comptoir Familial is a donation-based store run by volunteers located in the basement of St. Edouard Church at 366 Knowlton Road. It sells a wide range of items such as clothing, bedding, CDs, VHS, books, dishes, small electrical appliances, paintings, toys, etc. The Comptoir is open every Thursday afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m. To donate, simply drop off your items in the red box near the entrance. For fragile items, you can deliver them directly to the Comptoir on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings up to 11:30 a.m. The money collected is given to the community – food bank, the schools, Au Diapason and other organisations.

Karma is a donation-based thrift store where all profits are donated back to the community. It is in a large space in the basement of St Paul’s Church at 24 Chemin St Paul, Knowlton. It sells a wide range of goods, including men’s and women’s clothes, some furniture, a wide range of kitchen and household goods, jewelry and games. Prices are mainly under $10. The store supports a variety of local charities and community initiatives.

While not a charity, Caro-Lu Thrift Shop offers great finds and more than just affordable clothing. Located at 512-1 Chemin Knowlton, it’s a treasure trove of women’s clothing, accessories like silk scarves and handbags, and even jewelry. Imagine the thrill of finding a stylish dress for just $10 – $20, or a chic leather jacket for around $40. It’s open Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fripp stores not only recycle items locally and provide value in often high-quality items, but they also make a significant impact on our local community. By shopping at these stores, you’re also supporting local charities and small businesses.
