All members of council and the mayor were present except Councillors Asselin and Lanteigne; 2 residents were in the audience.
Questions – Questions during the meeting covered the following points: The municipal publication –“The Source”– is published 2 to 3 times per year. It was suggested that council should establish a committee to consider increasing the frequency of publication and to include a short history and the values of West Bolton established in 1876, in preparation to celebrate the 150th anniversary in 2026.
Town Planning – No permits were issued in April. Nine applications are “in process”.
The application for a minor derogation on Ch. Dumouchel to permit the construction of a garage attached to the house was refused due to steep slopes and negative environmental effects.
Roads and Infrastructure – A culvert will be replaced on the #243 Bolton Pass Rd just south of Sally’s Pond during the summer. The Transport ministry estimates that the job will take about 3 weeks. Traffic will be delayed. A culvert will be replaced on Glen Rd dur- ing the period between July 1 and Sept 15. Vegetation will be mowed on both sides of municipal roads during the summer.
Contracts for snow plowing during the winter of 2024/5 are being negotiated.
Events – Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month – 3 new cases per month are reported in Quebec – support research. Quebec Week for the Disabled – 21% of Quebecers over the age of 15 have some level of disability.
Cyclosportive – Sept 22 and 23, 2024. This event will attract approx 800 cyclists for a 2-day event to cycle on rural roads in Bromont, Lac Brome and West Bolton. There are 2 routes – 70 and 100 km in length. The event organizers have asked for approval to use several roads in West Bolton. After long discussion the application for this outdoor athletic event was approved. The event organizers will be asked to inform all cyclists of the requirement to obey the rules of the road; slow down and ensure the safety of any one riding a horse on the road; and to provide each cyclist with an identification number so that cyclists that do not respect the rules can be identified and reported. It was also suggested that the event be planned to alternate between municipalities.
