If you love to make art, the Croquistes de Knowlton Sketchers might be just the thing for you. Founded 5 years ago by Knowlton artists Ginette (Gigi) Richard and Luce Laliberté, this dynamic group meets every Monday during the summer to sketch and paint en plein air, and just have a great time. Laliberté says that initiative was inspired by the global Urban Sketchers movement, and has a Knowlton flavour that focuses on capturing buildings, gardens, street scenes and activities in the town and surrounding areas.
Between 10 and 20 people come together each week from June through September to sketch. In the event of rain, the group moves indoors, usually at the Musée Lac-Brome Museum. Richard says that creating art with others, and seeing what other artists do, is inspiring and motivating.
“I love it. For me, sketching is calming, like meditation. And we have fun,” says Laliberté. In winter, the group meets once a month at the community centre. These sessions are limited to 12 artists because of space constraints. For those who want more, there is also weekly homework. Some sketches have been made into postcards, and are available at the museum shop.
Richard and Laliberté say that artists of any age, gender or experience can join, at no charge. Everyone is welcome.
