In Paris, on August 3, Aviron Knowlton Rowing’s (AKR) Kasia Gruchalla-Wesierski, pictured below, won Olympic Silver for Canada in the Women’s Eight. This is her second Olympic medal. Gruchalla-Wesierski clinched Gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the Eight.
Earlier this summer, Marilou Duvernay-Tardif, another familiar rowing star in our community, was part of the Canadian Four that won the Princess Grace Challenge Cup at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta in Henley-on-Thames, England.
In mid-August, the Hong Kong team competing in the 2024 World Championships in Ontario has been training for a week right here in Knowlton.
In September, AKR Coach, Raphael Kaiser, will compete as an individual in the Coastal Rowing World Championships in Genoa, Italy.
These achievements serve as a powerful inspiration for the 120 children from Knowlton Academy, Ecole St Edouard, and the Salamander Club, who were introduced to rowing this summer, as well as for the seven teenagers who currently train full-time with AKR.
The Knowlton youth program is made possible by the generous local support of the Knowlton Lions Club, the Yamaska Valley Optimists, and the Town of Brome Lake. This year, a substantial grant from Rowing Canada recognized the program nationally.
