Roundabout etiquette

There has been an increase in the number of roundabouts in our area, most recently on the approach to Cowansville. Consequently, it would be helpful to have a refresher on the rules and etiquette of roundabouts. These circular intersections are designed to improve traffic flow, allow for easier left turns and, most importantly, to reduce the emissions produced by vehicles idling at red lights or stopping and re-starting.

Yield to traffic in the roundabout but do not stop if your access is clear. Signal which exit you are taking by using your right signal. This gives cars entering the roundabout the knowledge that it is safe for them to enter since you are exiting. For the process to be efficient and safe, remember to signal your intentions.
