A chance encounter with a friend of a friend, a professor at the École de Joallier de Montréal, changed Marie-Ève Ménard’s life. Her path to becoming an expert jeweller had begun.

A native of Granby who spent her adolescence in Knowlton, Ménard’s creative studies began at L’École des Beaux Arts de Montréal. Further studies led to the discovery of her passion for everything jewelry, from gems to gold to silver to bronze – and even moissanite, a gem discovered inside a meteorite in 1893.

Many readers may know of Ménard’s former boutique in Bondville. When the space at 37 Lakeside in Knowlton became available following the passing of long-respected David Dawes, the building owners approached Ménard. Would she be interested in moving to Knowlton? Done.

Assisted by a friend she renovated the new premises: painting, build- ing counters and display cases, installing new lighting, and wall- papering a coincidental Three Pines wall. The result? A peaceful environment in which to peruse imported bronze necklaces, bracelets and earrings from Italy.

More important, local female artisans are a top priority for this shop and are proudly on display. And, of course, jewelry created by Ménard. Her inspiration begins with the gemstone itself. Ménard’s extensive knowledge of materials and gems is a gift for those who want to know more about their purchase.

An impressive workspace replete with a notable number of tools is the site of all things possible, from custom-made jewelry to the restoration of family heirlooms. Restoring and recycling sentimental pieces gives new life to a ring or watch that may become a pendant or anything that one might imagine. Antique time pieces may be brought back to life. And what about Grandmother’s pearls lying unworn in a box, or Great-Grandfather’s gold pocket watch?

Batteries for watches can be replaced while the actual internal repair happens in Montreal. Ear-piercing is also available.
