The Yamaska Valley Optimist Club will be holding the 23rd edition of its Cancer Walk on Sunday, October 6. Originally started to fight breast cancer, in the last few years the walk has branched out to help fight and treat all cancers. This year, funds raised will go towards the purchase of new endoscopy equipment for the Brome-Missisquoi- Perkins Hospital, which will decrease the waiting time for colonoscopies and gastroscopies. Early detection is so important, facilitating the treatment and improving the outcome.
The walk is open to all, including our four-legged canine friends. Your may choose to walk or run 5 or 10 kilometres. A session of chair yoga is being offered. The minimum amount to register is $25, although you are encouraged to contribute more. The Walk leaves from Centre Lac-Brome at 9:30 a.m. and pre-registration starts at 8 a.m. Online forms are available at: http://www.bmpfoundation.ca or your may pick up paper forms in Knowlton at Le Panier Champetre or the Royal Lepage office.
This year, Heather Padner is joining Dr. Christine Cadrin as an honorary co-president. Over the past 21 years, Heather has raised an amazing $68,826 for the YVOC Cancer Walk. She is a born and bred Townshipper and has reached out each year to her 47 generous sponsors to help her achieve her fund-raising goals.
