Dinner theatre makes a come-back

How do you warm up a cold February evening? How about with some Wild Love? That is the title of the Knowlton Players’ latest dinner theatre production hitting the stage in just a few short weeks at the Auberge Lakeview Inn. After a 5-year hiatus, the dinner theatre model will be a warm welcome to theatre lovers who remember the fun of the past.

For many years, dinner theatre productions took place on the upper floor of the Knowlton Pub. Getting to the second floor wasn’t always easy for our supporters, so we needed a new possibility, and the reopening of the Lakeview with the dining room could not have been better timed. The show will take place in the Victoria Room, where there is a small stage and enough seating for 82 people to sit and have dinner while enjoying the show.

As author and producer, I tried to remember the key elements that I love to see in a show; recognizability of the characters (No, I will not say if I based characters on anyone I know!), laughter, intrigue and of course, music! With an exceptionally funny and talented cast, it hasn’t been difficult to imagine my script coming to life since the day of the auditions. We all laugh at every rehearsal, so I take that as a good sign that the audience will enjoy themselves too.

What’s it about you ask? Well, when a prominent member of a small town passes away, his wife and friends are left wondering if he was all he claimed to be. Details of what happened prior to his demise leave more questions than answers and while all that drama is unfolding around her, his wife is left to try to figure out what she will do next? How can she possibly reinvent her life in this small town? With a little help from her friends, and a little ambush from her not-so-friends, we will love and laugh our way through as she tries to redeem her name and rebuild her life.
