Louis Villeneuve Elected MP for Brome–Missisquoi
By Anne Stairs
Louis Villeneuve, former mayor of Bromont, has taken a step onto the national stage as the newly elected Liberal Member of Parliament for Brome–Missisquoi. In the federal election held on April 28, Villeneuve secured the riding with over 48% of the vote.
Though new to federal politics, Villeneuve’s political journey began at the local level. His first foray came when he got involved in efforts to preserve the south side of Bromont Mountain, producing a documentary on the issue. This initial engagement led him to run for municipal office. He was elected city councillor in 2013, then mayor of Bromont in 2017, a role he held for eight years until earlier this year when he was nominated by the Liberal Party to run federally.
While environmental protection remains a core concern for him, Villeneuve acknowledges that his new responsibilities are wide-ranging. He says that Mark Carney has tasked him with helping farmers and local businesses navigate Trump-era tariffs and ongoing supply chain challenges. Villeneuve is also focused on addressing rising housing and living costs, and on maintaining balance between French and English-speaking communities.
Now that the campaign is over, Villeneuve wants residents to know he is available and accessible to all constituents, regardless of how they voted.
“No matter who you voted for, you can be sure I’m working for everyone,” he says.
His constituency office is being set up at 145 Sherbrooke Street, 3rd floor, Cowansville, and can be reached at 450-263-5560.
