The Mayor and all councillors were present, with the exception of Patrick Ouvrard. Approximately 25 residents attended in person. The meeting focused primarily on architectural planning and development.
Architectural Guide for TBL
The Town of Brome Lake has commissioned an architectural guide to support future planning decisions. This guide will document the local architectural traditions and design norms. It is expected to be completed by fall 2025 and will serve as a reference to ensure future construction reflects the desired look and feel of the community.
Cancellation of SPAIP 2024-07-195 Building Permit
Location: Lot 6 505 365 (472 chemin de Knowlton), and lots 6 505 356 to 6 505 364, and 6 505 366 to 6 505 368.
This decision concerns the Jardins Lac-Brome apartment development on the former IGA site, directly across from the current IGA. In 2023, the developer requested changes to the original plan. In July 2024, the Town granted conditional approval, requiring several conditions to be met.
As of May 2025, these conditions had not been fulfilled. The Town has therefore withdrawn all permissions, effectively halting the project.
Editor’s note: Two multi-unit housing projects are currently under development across from the IGA, both of which have generated public concern. This decision applies to the project with the brown apartment building near the highway—not the adjacent yellow flat-roofed building, which was approved in 2018. Both have been criticized for aesthetic reasons and their proximity to the road.
Other Updates
- Boat stickers will soon be available for purchase online.
- A new play module in Lions Park—designed for young children to use while their older siblings play sports—will be installed by late summer.
- St-Étienne-de-Bolton will now have a first responder service from Waterloo and the TBL First Responders will cover a portion of St-Étienne-de-Bolton ( chemin de la tour sector) where response time is quicker than for Waterloo.
In the June issue of Tempo, we reported that Town of Brome Lake First Responders cover St-Etienne-de-Bolton. In fact, most of St-Etienne has first responder service from Waterloo, not TBL, but the TBL First Responders will cover a portion of St-Etienne (chemin de la tour section) where response time is quicker. Tempo regrets any confusion this may have caused..
