West Bolton Council – May

By Tony Rotherham

All members of council were present for the May meeting except Margarita Lafontaine.

CPTAQ and Town Hall Expansion

The CPTAQ has agreed to hold a video-conference on July 16 to reconsider its decision to deny the separation of a small parcel of land adjacent to the town hall. The town needs this land to upgrade its well, septic system, building, and facilities.

Town Planning

  • 16 permits were issued in April, with a combined value of $2.2 million.
  • Two new tourist residential use applications were received.
    • The application for 361 Brill was approved.
    • The application for 44 Stukely was deferred to the June meeting.
  • Philippe Barrette has been confirmed as the new Municipal Building and Environmental Inspector.

Roads and Infrastructure

  • Spring road grading has begun.
  • Pothole repairs on paved roads will start soon.
  • Municipal Road Supervisor Jarod Chagnon will complete a 90-hour online engineering course provided by Cégep de Granby.

Environment

IDEC provided a report on stream water quality in six locations across West Bolton:

Bolton Pass Creek 1100A
Bolton Pass Creek 279A

A category means the water is clear, non-polluting, and in good health. A detailed report is available at town hall, and a copy will be sent to Conservation Lac Brome.

Waste & Recycling

The cost of repairs to garbage and compost bins will be shared between the resident and the municipality:

  • Covers: $34
  • Axles: $13
  • Wheels: $26

Residents pay for parts; the municipality covers labour. Blue recycling bins are not included.

Public Safety Reminder

If you see a vehicle with flashing green lights, it may be a First Responder or Volunteer Firefighter on an emergency call. Please let them pass safely.

Recreation Agreements

West Bolton has signed agreements with TBL, Granby, and Cowansville for access to sports and recreational facilities. For details, contact town hall.
