TBL Council – June

All councillors were present at the June council meeting, with approximately 20 residents attending in person. The main focus of the evening was on financial matters.

2024 Municipal Surplus and Investments

The Town reported a 2024 surplus of $3.2 million, due largely to strong revenues from the land transfer tax. Several significant reinvestments were approved, including:

• $1 million for roadwork
• Over $350,000 for sewer system upgrades
• $600,000 in support of the downtown development plan, including the Pettes Library project and Coldbrook Park improvements

Support for Local Non-Profits

Council approved the following contributions:

• $400 – BMP Foundation, Knowlton Golf Tournament
• $1,000 – BMP Foundation, Tribute to Gilles Decelles
• Up to $18,000 – Canada Day fireworks
• $3,600 – Fulford Community Club, Street Dance

Lac-Brome Public Market Improvements

A 2024 community survey highlighted the need for more shaded areas at the Lac-Brome Public Market. A contract has been awarded, and thanks to a grant, the Town’s cost will be $17,000.

• Fête nationale – Live music at Douglass Beach, Monday, June 24
• Canada Day – Celebrations at Lions Park, Saturday, June 28, with fireworks in the evening
