Now in its 36th edition, the beloved Tour des Arts returns this summer with 35 artists opening their studio doors from July 12 to 20, daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors are invited to meet the artists, view and purchase their work, and get a glimpse into their creative world—and rural lives.
“Come and explore,” encourages Almut Ellinghaus, president of the Tour.
“Most of our artists love to educate the public and talk about their passions.”
The Tour has long been a favourite among locals and visitors alike, offering a scenic journey through the Eastern Townships as attendees make their way from studio to studio.
Familiar Names and New Faces
This year’s lineup includes long-time favourites like Stanley Lake, Robin Badger, John Davidson, Robert Chartier, Alisa Shusko, Mark Zimmerl, and the Potton Valley Quilters.
Joining the Tour for the first time in 2024 are:
- Lou-Anne Daoust Filiatrault, potter
- Yuniku Atelier – Margo Rowley, textile artist
- Sophie Dragon, painter
A Growing Artistic Legacy
Founded by Stanley Lake alongside artists Mya Lightbody and Liz Davidson, the Tour des Arts began at a time when studio visits were becoming a creative and commercial alternative to craft fairs in urban centres.
From modest beginnings with a dozen artists, the Tour has grown in both scope and popularity. It now includes artists from Abercorn, Sutton, Knowlton, Brome, Brome Lake, West Bolton, East Bolton, and Mansonville.
Make the Most of Your Tour
To plan your route and discover which studios pique your interest, visit the preview exhibit at Arts Sutton on July 11. All participating artists will have works on display. The vernissage (opening night) takes place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m..
A portion of the proceeds from the Tour supports arts programming in Grades 5 and 6 in local elementary schools.
