Good News!
West Bolton will be allowed to purchase an acre of land from a neighbouring 345-acre property to install a septic system and a well, and to renovate the aging town hall. The CPTAQ, the Quebec bureaucracy that governs agricultural zoning, had originally rejected the town’s request, made more than a year ago. But it has now agreed to allow the town to go ahead with purchasing the land.
Formal notice of approval by the CPTAQ is expected in late September. Council approved preparation of an offer to purchase the land upon receipt of the formal notice of approval from the CPTAQ.
Town Planning
- 18 permits with a value of $300K were issued in August.
- The bylaw concerning demolition of buildings will be reviewed and clarified.
Roads
West Bolton has about 65 km of roads with many culverts. The culverts are large, to permit creeks to pass under the road, and small for simple drainage of ditches. Their condition varies from good to “replacement needed”. This work will be carried out over a period of several years and cost a lot of money.
Provincial subsidies will cover some of the cost. Work on replacement of large diameter culverts is expensive and requires the supervision by a qualified engineering and environmental consultant.
Work to replace culverts will continue and will require that roads be closed for the work to be carried out. The list includes:
- Bailey
- Stagecoach
- Fuller
- Stukely
- Town Hall
Some dangerous trees will be cut on Bailey.
Other Updates
- Renewal of water quality testing by IDEC was approved.
- The agreement on access to recreational services in TBL was extended for 2 years.
Next Meeting
Provincial regulations require a 30-day period between a council meeting and a municipal election. The Council meeting scheduled for Monday, October 6, has therefore been moved up to Wednesday, Oct. 1.
Municipal elections will be held Sunday, Nov 2.
