Cancer Walk raises $205K

By Susan Jacques

More than $205,000 has been raised so far from this year’s edition of the Cancer Walk, organized by the Yamaska Valley Optimist Club on Oct. 5. People of all ages and their dogs participated in the 5-km walk. About 30 children took part in the new “The Kid’s Wonder Walk” of 1.5 km around Lions Park, introduced so that more people could participate.

The funds raised are for a mammography machine at the BMP Hospital. Donations are still being accepted until the end of the year at the BMP Foundation website.

Dozens of people contributed as donors and volunteers to make this year’s event a success. Among those, Promutuel Insurance gave $115,000, and the Oddfellows organized a fundraiser for a quilted blanket and raised $6,250.
