The October 1 council meeting marked the final session for Mayor Richard Burcombe and councillors Louise Morin and Lucy Gagnon, who thanked their colleagues, staff, volunteers, and residents for their support over the years.
Mayor Burcombe said he was proud of the town’s accomplishments during his 12 years in office, including completion of the walking and bike path, the expansion of town hall, and the redevelopment of Coldbrook Park and its new dam. Most importantly, he said, he was pleased to have helped restore harmony to the municipality after a difficult four-year period prior to 2013.
He concluded by wishing good luck to his successor, earning warm applause for himself and his colleagues from the large crowd gathered for the occasion. The meeting’s atmosphere was upbeat, bringing the council’s term to a positive close.
The only controversial issue came when businessman Benoît Laliberté, who is involved in the construction of one of the apartment complex developments across from IGA, accused the administration of harming his interests as a result of the interim control bylaw limiting new construction projects.
