West Bolton Council – October 1, 2025

By Tony Rotherham

All members of Council were present. There were 11 in the audience and by Zoom.

Swimming Pool Fencing Deadline

The province has postponed the deadline for the installation of fences around swimming pools until Sept 30, 2026.

Town Hall Renovation and Land Purchase

The CPTAQ has formally approved the purchase of 0.5 ha of hay field adjacent to the Town Hall to accommodate renovation of the Town Hall and installation of a well and septic system. Purchase of the land has been agreed with the present owner.

Council Elections and Acknowledgments

Marie-Blanche Richer was thanked for her service on Council. Since the meeting Oct. 1, Mayor Denis Vaillancourt and councillors Nancy Lanteigne, Gilles Asselin, Eddy Whitcher have been re-elected by acclamation to another four-year term.

On Nov. 2, voters will elect councillors for the remaining council positions: Margarita Lafontaine is facing a challenge by Pierre Godbout; Marie-Michelle Lavigne is in a race for a council seat against Daniel Desrochers; and Loren Allen is running against Dominique Carmichael.

Road Safety and Speed Concerns

A deer was killed by a speeding vehicle on Paramount Rd. The new 50 km/hr speed limit is helpful, but speeding is rampant on West Bolton Roads and the SQ is rarely seen. Residents asked that deer crossing signs be put up to warn drivers of places where deer frequently cross the road. Residents have long asked for speed reducing signage and measures but little has been done so far.

Other news

Several permits for renovations and construction were issued. Two minor variances were approved and one refused.

Work on the Stukely Rd bridge over Highway 10 has been completed. Culverts on Town Hall Rd and Bailey Rd will be replaced and roadside brush will be cleared in several areas. There was a lot of discussion about heavy trucks loaded with logs using narrow municipal roads.
