Marc Pelletier, who has died at the age of 81, was a volunteer and quiet activist who brought a lot of real change to the Town of Brome Lake.
“Marc kept after the town for recycling electronics, and we went ahead with an annual collection,” said Richard Burcombe, who is stepping down as mayor after 12 years. “Marc was always polite, a great volunteer with a lot of good ideas.”
One of Pelletier’s recent victories was his online campaign about the trimming of trees on town land.
“Marc spent a lot of time on the walking path and he reported about trees being cut on town land. We thank him for that,” said Burcombe.
Marc was a founding member of the Club de la Bonne humeur (CBH) in Bondville.
“Marc was the initiator of the group Les Amis des Sentiers de Lac-Brome,” said Doreen Drolet, présidente Club de la Bonne humeur de Lac-Brome. “In 2018, this club merged with CBH.”
“Marc regularly reminded us of the special collection days organized by the Town of Lac-Brome, particularly those dedicated to safely disposing of outdated electronic devices,” wrote Madame Drolet. “Thanks to his attentiveness and dedication, many members were able to take part in these eco-friendly initiatives, helping reduce our environmental footprint.”
Life and Career
Marc Pelletier was born in Quebec City on March 7, 1944. He received a degree in mechanical engineering from Laval University and then worked as a diplomat, specifically a commercial attaché, for Canadian embassies in Venezuela and Guatemala.
He spoke fluent Spanish along with flawless English. He also worked in Austria and Lebanon.
Following his diplomatic career, he worked as a consultant. He first moved to the Town of Brome Lake part time and then full time.
Marc was active not just in community affairs but also on the tennis court and lately played a lot of pickleball. He also volunteered to work overseas as a consultant for fledgling entrepreneurs.
“Marc was fond of Latin America and worked as a volunteer there,” said his sister Nina. “He wanted his life to be purposeful and to contribute.”
Family and Celebration of Life
Marc Pelletier is survived by his two sisters, Lucie and Nina, and sons Karl and Martin, and his girlfriend Lisa Merovitz.
There will be a celebration of life at the Hotel Lac Brome at 3 p.m. on November 15.
