As the holidays approach, we are reminded daily of the challenges shaping our world.
People continue to suffer from war and hatred in the Middle East, Ukraine, Sudan, and elsewhere. Authoritarianism is re-emerging, both far away and close to home. Economic disparities are widening. Even within our own country and community, too many families struggle to find affordable housing and put food on the table. These images of hardship and uncertainty are impossible to ignore.
And yet, we are fortunate. Amid global turmoil, we live in a place of relative peace and stability. Our political system – imperfect though it may be – still provides a solid framework for dialogue and meaningful change. Our recent municipal elections sent a clear message: voters value stability, but they also expect real improvements in how Brome Lake manages its development. Meanwhile, although the CAQ government continues to advance misguided policies in health care, education and social services, strong and reasoned voices are rising in opposition as we head toward the next provincial election.
The holiday season invites us to appreciate the good in our lives. It reminds us of the importance of kindness, education, family and the human bonds that connect us, regardless of where we come from. We are fortunate to live among neighbours who share a commitment to civility and respect.
The season also calls us to action. Each of us bears a responsibility to help make the world a better place. Through charitable acts or donations, volunteering, offering a kind word, or simply sharing a smile, we can all help nurture the values of compassion, empathy, and respect. In a world divided by wealth, race, and religion, the true strength of the holiday season lies in our shared humanity and our collective resolve to make life brighter for everyone.
From all of us at Tempo, we wish you a safe and joyous holiday season and a very Happy New Year.
