West Bolton Council – March

By : Tony Rotherham.

The Mayor and all members of Council were present, plus 5 residents in person or by Zoom.

Building Permits and Municipal Appointment

Ten building permits were issued with a total value of $740,000. One request for a minor derogation in the Bolton Pass was refused. Ms Noemi Germain was appointed Municipal Inspector and responsible for employee health and safety.

Cycling Event Approved

A request from the Bromont National Cycling Centre to allow use of West Bolton roads for a cycling tour (Gravelooza) was approved.

Road and car tax

Tenders will be called for summer maintenance of all municipal roads- grading, mowing and pruning of roadside vegetation and trees and cleaning of ditches.

The MRC has proposed a $35/year tax on all cars in the MRC and use of the money to subsidize the costs of a public transport system. This was voted on at the last meeting of the MRC. Most Mayors opposed the proposal but the mayors of the larger towns with a majority of the population in the MRC supported the idea. There will be more debate ahead.
