The fifth edition of the Lac-Brome Literary Festival will be held from June 3 to 7. Several leading figures in Quebec’s literary and cultural scene will present their works to the festival audience.
The opening night will feature a performance by choreographer Margie Gillis. The film “Mille secrets mille dangers” (A Thousand Secrets, A Thousand Dangers) will then be screened in the presence of its creators, Alain Farah and Philippe Falardeau.
Kev Lambert, a key figure in Quebec’s new generation of writers, will lead a reading workshop based on her most recent book, Cumul 1.
Anishinaabe literature will be celebrated during an evening of public readings and discussions with authors Widia Larivière and Émilie Monnet.
Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette and Steve Gagnon will explore the theme of joy in the literary performance Architectures de la joie. Christina Vanciu will host a literary discussion about her novel Femmes silencieuses, and a literary exchange will bring together author Léa Clermont-Dion and author-illustrator Jean-Paul Eid.
To close the event, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Bonheur d’occasion, actress Marie-Thérèse Fortin will pay tribute to Gabrielle Roy with a theatrical reading of her memoirs.
Activities for children
An introduction to role-playing games will offer workshops for young people aged 8 to 14, led by Victor from Librairie Le Repère, exploring character creation, different game formats, and collaborative mechanics.
The Fragments workshop, led by Véronique Grenier, author of Petites Douceurs, will invite participants to write short texts and reflections.
Édith Cochrane, author of Dans mon grenier, will host the awards ceremony for the Youth Writing Competition, a literary contest open to elementary school students in the region.
A children’s show, Le rêve de Yomandé, featuring Franck Sylvestre, will present a theatrical tale blending puppetry, masked performance, and object manipulation.
Several other activities – a dictation exercise, workshops, and an exhibition of Stéphane Poirier’s work, Autour du chantier – are offered to the public. For the complete program and to purchase tickets, visit the site theatrelacbrome.ca.
