Reimagined boathouse project opens lake to all

By : Philippe Meunier.

Brome Lake is an integral part of our region’s identity. It shapes our landscapes, brings people together, and contributes to the quality of life for which the area is renowned. Yet, for many families, youth and people with special needs, opportunities to fully experience the lake remain limited.

Maison du Lac Project

It was from this desire to open a true window onto the lake that the Maison du Lac was conceived. Located next to Douglass Beach, the project led by a non-profit organization aimed at creating a year-round community, sports and educational facility. More than just a building, it is intended to be a gathering place where sports, learning, the environment, and community life come together.

In addition to providing a base for the Brome Lake Rowing Club, the facility will host the Salamanders Camps, a Town of Brome Lake program supported by the rowing club. Through activities on the water and in nature, young people discover their environment while developing their independence, confidence and sense of belonging.

Adapted Sports and broader education

In collaboration with Sport Adapté Québec, the project also aims to support the development of adapted water sports, particularly adapted rowing, so that more residents can enjoy the benefits of the outdoors.

Maison du Lac also will play a broader lake-educational role through partnerships with organizations such as Conservation Lac Brome as a venue for conferences, workshops and educational activities focused on lake health, biodiversity and the protection of natural environments.
