TBL Town Council – June 2026

By : Jean-Loup Beaulne-Morin

Mayor’s Opening Remarks

Mayor Lee Patterson opened the meeting by commending the Lac-Brome Fire Department for its response to the major fire that broke out at the West Brome sawmill on Friday, May 29.

He also announced that Hydro-Québec has selected Route C for the new West Brome substation; this falls short of the City of Lac-Brome’s expectations, as the city preferred a “Route D” that essentially would follow Routes 104 and 139 east and south from Cowansville, but the council ultimately recognizes the importance of ensuring the stability of the power grid.

Patterson also shared the council’s disappointment regarding the postponement of the measure to reroute truck traffic via Route 215 in Bondville. The decision by the Quebec Department of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, justified by roadwork in West Bolton, does not sit well with the Town as it prepares for the summer season, and the mayor indicated they intens to follow up with the Department.

Adoption of Draft Bylaws 2026-10 and 2026-11

Draft Bylaws 2026-10 and 2026-11 were adopted. As a reminder, the first bylaw will provide financial assistance to residents who install, among other things, rain gardens, rain barrels, storm drains and riparian strips, as well as a donation of shrubs and plants to improve water and land management.

The second bylaw will provide geotextile free of charge to residents who request it to combat harmful and invasive plant species.

Notice of Motion – Draft Bylaw 545-4

A notice of motion was presented for Draft Bylaw 545-4 amending Bylaw 545 concerning traffic and parking. The Town considers it appropriate to broaden the scope of the violation provided for in Section 14 (bike lanes) and thus allow peace officers to issue notices of violation and increase the penalties provided for in this bylaw, all to ensure better alignment with the provisions of the Highway Safety Code.

Bond Issue Approved

Finally, a $5,865,000 bond issue maturing on June 15, 2026, was approved to fund, among other things, renovation and repair work on Town Hall and roads.
