Construction began last month on the Musée Lac Brome Museum’s expansion. The new building, which will add 6,000 square feet to the campus’s public and research space, is expected to open in the late fall of 2027.
It is to be located beside the main Centennial Building and will provide additional space for temporary and permanent exhibitions, a multi-purpose event hall, meeting rooms and a new museology laboratory.
Project Cost and Fundraising
Total cost of the project is pegged at $4.5 million, with $2.2 million funded by a federal grant and the remainder through private donations.
Fundraising has gone well since the campaign was launched last November, and the museum is seeking another $1 million to reach its goal.
The project’s cost originally was estimated in 2024 to be $3.7 million, but construction materials and labour costs have risen significantly since that time.
Green and Inclusive Community Buildings
The grant was made available through the federal government’s Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program.
The new building will meet the grant criteria of climate resilience in terms of heating/cooling and design considerations to protect against risks related to climate change.
Future Renovations
During the next five to seven years, the museum also plans to upgrade and renovate its existing, centuries-old buildings.
Some of the new building’s space will be used to temporarily house artefacts normally on display in buildings that are under renovation.

Update from Pettes Library
The Pettes Memorial Library reports its expansion is moving forward and everything is going
according to plan. This month, Library representatives are to meet with several contractors to
review their offers, and work will soon be underway. Information of the next steps will be
forthcoming.
