Everybody knows someone facing cancer and, for the past 25 years, the Yamaska Optimists Club has organized walks to raise funds for the Brome Missisquoi Perkins Hospital mammogram section. This year the focus is on equipment for early detection of cancer.
Registration and donations
Participants are required to fill in a form available from Barnes Hardware, Panier Champetre Jean Coutu Pharmacy or online at the Fondation de l’hôpital Brome Missiquoi Perkins Hospital Foundation web site.
Receipts are available for donations over $25. All donations go to directly to the mammogram department as all costs are covered by a donation from Jean Coutu.
The walk
The walk starts at 9:30 from the community centre on Victoria and registration starts at 8:15 or online.
There are several ways to participate: the 5 km, a shorter walk, a kids adventure walk or yoga. Dogs are welcome.
Coffee is provided by Virgin Hill and snacks are also offered. Pink flowers from Jardin Foster are given to all survivors who participate.
Last year over 60 volunteers and 200 walkers participated. Over that past 25 years, $1.6 million has been raised.
Honorary participants
The honorary president is Dr. Christine Cardin and honorary walkers are Louise Gélinas, Patti Larose Mason, Lucy Davis and Johanne Colteux.
