For 25 years on the first Sunday of October, the Yamaska Valley Optimist Club has organized a fundraising walk for cancer research. So far this year over $70,000 has been raised and contributions can be donated to the BMP foundation until December.
This money will support the purchase of specialized medical equipment for the operating room, the emergency department and out-patient surgery clinic. The new equipment will enable the hospital to perform mastectomies with sentinel lymph node biopsies, increase diagnostic surgical interventions and improve early detection of lesions and abnormalities.
More than $1.6 million raised since 2001
Since 2001, more than $1,600,000 has been raised with all the money going to the BMP foundation thanks to the generosity of local businesses (Jean Coutu, Virgin Hill, MNP accountants, Groupe Deragon, Foster Gardens, Remorquage 4 Saisons and private individuals).
A community coming together
On this perfect October day, runners, walkers, people with reduced mobility along with many dogs and two miniature horses moved along the walk and chatted with friends and neighbours.
