The mystery of the foul stench coming from Bondville’s sewer line continues. Mayor Lee Patterson finds efforts too slow and hopes for solutions, or at least answers, by the next meeting. He also lamented delays to the walking trail linking Lions Park and rue des Bourgeons: verbal agreements with the owners of the land it would cross no longer hold, as some have moved, and a new route may even be needed. The mayor promised, with no guarantees, an update before the 2027 budget is presented in December.
635 Lakeside Road: exemptions authorized
On September 8, 2026, the Town of Brome Lake council adopted the second version of the request for a specific project for the construction, alteration or occupancy of the property at 635 Lakeside Road.
Opponents could request a referendum from September 15 to 28, but too few requests were received to trigger a registration period. The two exemptions from the zoning bylaws are therefore authorized, and the applicant may submit a new building permit application.
The project calls for a single-family home within the 45-metre buffer of the Quilliams wetland, with the front setback reduced to three metres. It must comply with the revised perspectives and the plans amended on September 4, 2026 by Adhoc Architectures, notably the sloped roof and black wood siding. Councillor Patrick Ouvrard was again the only one opposed, judging the roof inadequate to reduce ground imperviousness.
Downtown Knowlton: proposed bylaw amendment
Council also tabled draft bylaw 2026-13, amending interim control bylaw 2025-06 on the vision for downtown Knowlton. It would exclude commercial buildings from that control to preserve the village core’s commercial vitality, while extending it to the other prohibited activities, chiefly new multi-unit buildings of three or more dwellings.
