Local race supports ski program

The Tour du Lac Brome, which attracted around three thousand runners at its annual race June 13–14, is giving financial help to local school ski programs.

Participants running in a 5K race, wearing matching purple and white shirts, smiling and enjoying the event, with one runner showing a peace sign and another wearing a prosthetic leg.

Nicolas Lemaître, the on-site ambassador for the Sun Life-sponsored event and long-time Physical Education teacher at Knowlton Academy, accepted a cheque in the amount of $900. KA ski program volunteers hosted a water station at two separate races. The donation will help fund the 56th edition of the ski program at Mont Sutton this January and February.

Roger Pagé, co-founder of the race and organizer from 1979–2001, was given a cheque for $500, in recognition of his family’s annual water station on the corner of Benoit and Victoria. His station is the last chance to hydrate on the push to the finish line at Lion’s Park. The Pagé family is giving the money to Heroes’ Memorial school to help with their own downhill ski program.

This is not the first time money has been distributed by the Tour du Lac Brome. Lemaître says,

By hosting water stations, helping on site with the finish line, and by providing food services during the event, local groups have an opportunity to receive a serious donation from the organization.

The breakdown for racing is a 5K, 10K, and half marathon. The Tour du Lac Brome is one of 12 Sun Life events held in Montréal, the South Shore and the Montérégie regions of Québec.
