Richard Price, who died at the age of 70 , was a long time resident of Foster, and a former councillor for the area. He grew up in Foster on the family farm, familiar to most residents because of the distinctive red barn on Lakeside Rd.

After graduating from Knowlton High School, he obtained a degree in Agricultural Engineering from McGill University’s Macdonald campus. He ran a pulp and paper equipment supply business from Foster, covering Eastern Canada.

“Richard’s dad, Bob Price, was the scoutmaster for the Foster troop. Both his parents were involved with the St. James Anglican church in Foster. His brother, David, became an Anglican church minister. Richard and his wife Kate have been dedicated to keeping the little church on the hill running,” said Rod Bailey, a friend since high school.

Richard made maple syrup on a small scale and sold it from the family’s old red barn. He was a talented musician and was involved with many bands, some of which played at the Brome Fair. His last band was named after his home town: Foster Grit.

He was a keen local historian and also had a fascination with steam engines. His intellectual curiosity stretched to learning Welsh, not an easy language to master.

From 1987 to 1991 he was the municipal councillor for Foster. Richard Price was born on September 15, 1947. He died at home in Foster on April 22, 2018. He is survived by his wife Kate, his brother David, children Candy, Tom and Muffy and two grandchildren.

When you visit the Brome Fair this fall, please pass by the little stage and give a nod to the memory of Richard Price wearing a red t-shirt and bright blue pants pumping out the Rolling Stones tunes.
