Denis Paradis, MP for Brome-Missisquoi, was distributing Ottawa’s largesse to the area at the end of April. Town of Brome Lake received a $1.32M grant, the largest in the riding, under the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund program that will be used to redo Victoria Street.

No known funds for swimming pool

When asked about the status of the grant application for the TBL swimming pool, Mr. Paradis said he was “unaware of the availability of federal funds for such an infrastructure,” a statement that surprised Mayor Richard Burcombe and Director-General Gilbert Arel both present at the meeting. Mr. Arel told Tempo that the request for funds was resent after that meeting. As of now no response was received.

When asked to comment on the more than $20M that would be required – according to the MRC – to provide the riding of Brome-Missisquoi with fibre optic fast speed Internet, Mr. Paradis said “it’s not that big a grant and I will push hard for it to happen. It simply doesn’t make sense that a region that is only an hour away from the Champlain Bridge does not have more access to high speed Internet.”
