A very unique house and property in Knowlton is on the market for 1.5 million dollars and the total sale price will be given to charity.

The lucky recipient of this generous gift will be Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) unless the eventual purchaser has strong feelings about giving some of the money to another charity. The current owner of 286 Lakeside has a strong affinity for the work carried out by MSF and has been in touch with their Toronto office to make sure that they will use the donation to further their international work. MSF is of French origin and has its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

The current owner of the house is from France and spent three years in Knowlton, prior to building this house in 2002. He spent time there with his family but, unfortunately, it is no longer feasible to keep the house. He is looking for the right buyer to appreciate and love it the way he does.

Barbara Baudinet of Sotheby’s International Realty Québec is the agent and, in her many years of being in the business, she has never had a client prepared to give such a donation. The property is located alongside the first hole of the Knowlton Golf Club and, in her words “the setting is absolutely to die for with vistas of the surrounding groomed fields.”

One strange occurrence has been the stealing of the “For Sale” sign located beside the “286” sign on Lakeside Road. This has happened three times, after dark, and, much as the sign was recovered the first time, it has now twice completely disappeared. It is to date unknown why someone would do this or who the perpetrator is.

The owner’s main objective is to reach his goal of the 1.5 million sale price so the beneficiary of this amount of money. There has been interest in the property from both international and local would-be purchasers and there is currently a tenant in the house.
