Like the old song says, a number of seniors in our community “don’t get around much anymore.” Many no longer drive, some never did. And sometimes there just doesn’t seem to be anyplace interesting to go. The Monday Club aims to change that.
“Our goal is to get seniors out more,” says Jana Valasek, Executive Director of Pettes Memorial Library. “We hope people will come for the cozy atmosphere, the many resources their library has for them, and for the social opportunity. A morning at the Library is a great way to lift your spirits and fight the winter blahs!”
In addition to magazines and newspapers, free Wi-Fi and the Library’s many collections, Monday Club members will find help with digital literacy and one-on-one assistance with on-line tasks. Conversation should be plentiful and refreshments will definitely be served, courtesy of popular local caterer Lenore Dudley.
For non-driving members in TBL, transportation to and from Pettes Memorial will be provided by the Wellness Volunteer Centre. “Just give us a call the week before so we can make arrangements,” says Rachel Massicks, Wellness’s Director of Transportation. “One of our volunteers will be happy to give you a lift.”
The inaugural meeting of the Monday Club is planned for February 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at Pettes Memorial Library. For transportation, please call Rachel at 450-777-6338 before 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 7.
Please note that Pettes Memorial is closed Mondays, except to Monday Club members. The library is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m., closing at 5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; 6 p.m. Wednesday and Friday; and 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
