After working for 27 years at the Post Office in Knowlton, LeaAnn Whitehead has most assuredly earned the expertise to be named Postmaster/Postmistress. A native of Knowlton, she and her husband Bernard Gravel, have raised two children in the area and LeaAnn is only a five-minute walk from her work place.
Over the years there has been a noticeable change in the number of letters mailed but parcels have increased in volume with people ordering many goods on-line. Overall, services are more streamlined and easier to manage with the introduction of payment by bank and credit cards. Christmas is, as always, the busiest season but clients come in on a daily basis to buy stamps and money orders and even to ask for a little tourist advice.
Whitehead has always enjoyed, and been good at, serving the public and she also enjoys the camaraderie of working with the two full-time staff, one part-time and the five mail carriers.
She is well-known for her distribution of donuts and cookies at the Post Office a couple of weeks before Christmas. For the last couple of years, she has raised money for the Cancer Walk by requesting donations for her baked goods.
