St-Édouard School, in Knowlton, will no longer offer the “programme d’éducation intermédiaire international”. On top of the regular teaching subjects, the international program seeks to offer pupils a form of international humanism. Teachers are required to follow ongoing training. Many children have been part of the program in the past six years. Parents had to contribute an extra $200 for their child to be registered. In 2019, Québec’s Department of Education abolished the imposition of extra fees in schools. After that, only half the number of registered children were paying the fees. Then came the COVID crisis with its strict sanitary rules. This was the final blow for the program as few children returned to school in May. There are about 165 children registered for the next school year at St-Edouard.
